Day 01 : Arrive Accra
Arrive in Accra, Ghana by international flight. Meet, assist and transfer to hotel.

Day 02 : Accra
After breakfast depart hotel for a sightseeing city tour of Accra. You will drive through the administrative and economic districts of Accra, the capital of Ghana. This 128-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern architecture that summarizes her history. You will visit the W. E. B. Dubois Center for Pan African Culture, Independence / Black Star Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. End your tour at the Arts Center where you will have an opportunity to use your bargaining skills to shop in an open-air market for artifacts from Ghana and West Africa.

Day 03 : Accra – Cape Coast – Elmina
After breakfast depart for a drive to the Central Region and tour the infamous Forts, Castles and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. History will unfold as the story of the slave trade is witnessed, the impact still being felt beyond the shores of Africa today. Visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653 and was later taken over by the British. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Visit the Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 and is also known as St. George’s Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub–Saharan Africa. The view of the colorful harbor nestled below the Elmina Castle, full of pirogues preparing to go to sea, offers one of West Africa’s best picture-perfect opportunities.

Day 04 : Elmina
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for a drive through the historic Denkyira Kingdom to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Choose between a 2 km nature walk through this forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer or take a walk on the canopy walkway, which hangs suspended at 30 meters 100ft above the forest ground. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing at the beach soaking up the African sun.

Day 05 : Elmina – Kumasi
After breakfast at your hotel check out and depart for a drive through the forest zone to Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti Empire and explore the legends of the famous Ashantis, whose legacies are still evident today. After lunch, visit Manhyia Palace Museum and obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom. A regal history that dates back to 1700AD is told with relics and artefacts. Enjoy a drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. End the day’s tour at the National Cultural Center, which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters and batik makers.

Day 06 : Kumasi – Damongo
After breakfast at your hotel, depart on the northern trails to Mole visiting typical villages and sceneries. Overnight at Motel.

Day 07 :Damongo – Wa
After breakfast at your hotel, visit the Larabanga mosque, it is a common belief that this mosque is the oldest in Ghana. Even the present generation thinks it was built my God and proceed to Wa. Wa has been occupied for several hundred years. The original inhabitants were Lobi, who now live mostly in Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast. They were displaced by the Dagaare, who were in turn displaced by the Wala. The Wala are an aggregation of different peoples- Moshi from Burkina Faso, Manding from Mali and Hausa from Nigeria – who settled in Wa attracted by the devotion to Islam and the commercial opportunities offered by the trade between the forest and the desert. Indeed the name of the town Wa means “come” in the Waali language. Arrive in Wa, visit the striking Wa Naa’s palace is a beautiful example of northern architecture and the hippo sanctuary at Wechiau.

Day 08 : Wa –Tamale
After breakfast, check out and depart Wa for a drive to Tamale the capital of the Dagomba State. Visit the Center for National Culture to see how the Northern Culture evolved. Here you will find the well known northern traditional attire known as the ‘smock’ or ‘fugu’ being designed, dyed and sewed by hand. Visit the main handicraft market where you can shop for straw products, leather goods, and carvings from the Mossi people. Visit Kukuo, a suburb of Tamale to experience the mastery and style used in the manufacture of pottery and other household items with clay and local dye or paint.

Day 09 : Tamale – Tatale – Kara
After breakfast, early departure to Tatale via Yendi and the witches’ village and proceed to Tatali, Togo/Ghana border. After border formalities drive to Bandjeli whose inhabitants, the Kokomba’s knowledge of secrets of the processing of the iron ore is multi-centenary. On arrival, you will be welcomed by the traditional ruler and retinue; visit a prototype of blast furnace used in the transformation of the iron ore and the typical house of the chief. Witness the captivating T’bol folkdance of fire and have a scenic drive to Kara.

Day 10 : Kara –Natitingou
After breakfast depart Kara drive to the land of the Kabye, highly perched in the mountains. Visit the amazing blacksmith workshops and proceed to the land of the Losso. Visit the typical houses, the “soukala” and continue driving through the Defale ridges to Koutammakou, the land of the Tamberma, a Unesco Heritage site. Visit the typical habitat of these folks spread in the fields, the “takienta” and proceed to Boukoume. After border formalities, have a country drive through the land of the Somba to Natitingou. Arrive in Natitingou; check-in at hotel.
In the afternoon, visit the museum.

Day 11 : Natitingou – Djougou – Sokode
After breakfast, depart Natitingou and head south. En route, visit the picturesque cliiside village of the Yom people, Taneka Koko and proceed to Sokode in the central region of Togo via Djougou and Tchamba. Arrive in Sokode; check-in at hotel.
In the evening, witness the dance of the Tem fire eaters at Kparatao.

Day 12 : Sokode – Atakpame – Notse – Kpalime
After breakfast, proceed to Atakpame in mid Togo. En route, visit the biggest open air market of Togo at Anie. Arrive in Atakpame; visit “akoto” indegenious soap making village nearby. Continue driving to Notse the historical capital city of the Ewe, today a very important pineapple producing center. Taste the pineapple and proceed to Kpalime in the Plateau Region of Togo. Arrive in Kpalime; check in at hotel.

Day 13 : Kpalime – Lome
After breakfast, drive through vestiges of the tropical forest for Kouma Konda, a famous butterfly sanctuary in the Kloto mountains. Hike in the surrounding woods and back to Kpalime. Visit the prolific Kloto craft center and road to Lome; stop at typical villages and markets and witness a voodoo ceremony. Arrive in Lome; check-in at hotel.

Day 14 : Lome – Accra
After breakfast, visit the fishing harbour, the fetish market, the Independence Square, national museum, the artisans’ village, Art Street and Grand marché, the realm of the famous Nana Benz. Cross into Ghana after border formalities at Aflao or Segbe and proceed to hotel.

Day 15 : Depart Accra
Departure transfer to onwards destination.

Delights of Togo & Benin

Day 01 : Arrive Cotonou
Arrive in Cotonou by international flight. Meet, assist and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 : Cotonou – Porto  Novo
Breakfast at hotel and proceed to Abomey-Calavi. Aboard a motorboat, ride on the Nokoue Lake for Ganvie, Africa’s biggest stilt village; home to 33,000 Tofinu people. In Ganvie, go the narrow alleyways among the stilt houses visiting the Lovers’ Lane, the “Maison de la Francophonie”, and the floating market stop at a local hotel for refreshment. Return to Abomey-Calavi and continue to Porto-novo; the city with three name, the administrative capital city of Benin. Get to know intricacies of the internal organization of Hogbonu kingdom visiting King Toffa’s former palace. Tour continues to the museum of ethnography arranged around the main themes of Birth, Life and Death without skipping an amazing collection of Gelede masks. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 : Porto Novo – Abomey – Dassa Zounme
Breakfast at hotel and drive through the meanders of the Oueme and Couffo rivers to Abomey, centre to the famous Dahomey Kingdom. On arrival, you will be treated to a private audience with the reigning king who will be glad to share the captivating history of his people with you. Bid farewell to his royalty and attendants and visit historic museum, a UNESCO Heritage site, palaces of the 9th and the 10th monarchs. Drive to Dassa Zoume. Attend Egungun ghost spirits’ dance in a village. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 : Dassa  Zoune – Natitingou
Breakfast and head north to Natitingou at the foot of Atakora mountains. En route, stop at famous Dankoli voodoo shrine at Doyissa where people from all over the region would come to make wishes and drive to the Yom “village under the rock” Taneka Koko for an insight into the animistic practices of this tribal group which has kept its traditions throughout ages. Drive from village to Natitingou. Visit regional museum for a bit of French colonial history in this part of Benin and local ethnic architecture. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 : Natitingou – Kara
Breakfast and head west to Togo driving through the land of the Somba with their adobe castles, the “tata”. Across the border live the Tamberma, a tribal group close to the Somba with similar architecture. This tribe has kept almost untouched its cultural heritage in a swiftly changing environment. This might even be the reason of its inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage. Visit their habitat, the “takienta” spread in fields. Drive through Defale mountains to the land of the Kabye in the mountains. The Kabye are famous for iron-smiths molding iron with heavy rocks. Drive to Kara. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06 : Kara – Bandjeli – Atakpame
Breakfast at hotel and drive west to Bandjeli village at the heart of traditional metallurgy in northern Togo. On arrival, visit remnants of blast furnaces and the chief’s compound with decorated round houses. Witness the captivating Tbol fire dance of Bassar initiates and continue driving to Atakpame via Sokode. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 : Atakpame – Notse – Lome
After breakfast, continue your journey south to Notse, the historical home for the Ewe people of Ghana, Benin and Togo. This important tribe in West Africa traces its origins to Mesopotamia through Egypt and Abyssinia. One of their most preserved traditions is chieftaincy with the chiefs playing a capital role in the day to day life of the community. Chiefs and elders rule over the people. Disputes are resolved by special traditional arbitration courts or intermediary spirits and powers administered by traditional religions. In Notse, visit relics of Agbogbo wall from where the great exodus of this tribe started to their present day settlements across the sub-region and continue to Bolou potters’ village. Embark on a city tour of Togo’s capital where modernism and tradition overlap. Visit intriguing fetish market; drugstore for the locals stuffed with animal skulls, dried snakes and toads and other virtuous herbs. Drive to the national museum; and Independence Square. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08 : Lome – Ouidah
Breakfast and drive to Agbodrafo, an ancient important slave trade post. Visit slave dungeons and continue to a local fishing community to get to know aspects of their daily chores. Continue to Glidji, an important voodoo stronghold in Togo. Meet priests of the sacred forest who will gladly share some of their belief aspects with you. Cross back into Benin and drive to Ouidah dubbed the “voodoo capital city of Benin”. Visit Kpasse sacred forest will be your first stop in Ouidah. This shaded wood is believed to be where is still standing the tree into which, King Kpasse got deified to deceive his foes and numerous voodoo shrines and statues. Visit the museum of History, a former Portuguese Slave fort. Visit the temple of pythons and go the Slave Route till the awesome Door of No Return on the beach.  Check-in at hotel.

Day 09 : Ouidah – Cotonou

Day 01 : Arrive Accra
Arrival at Accra, Ghana airport meet, assist and transfer to hotel for check in & short orientation. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 : Accra
After breakfast, proceed to visit Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and museum, dedicated to Ghana’s first post-independence President. A drive through the colonial section and view Ussher and James Forts built by the Dutch 1650 and British 1673 respectively. The Light House which used to guide ships to the Accra Harbour in colonial days. National Museum, Independence Square & Arch and the central business district Craftsmen at Teshie/Nungua who make fantasy coffins in the shape of vegetables, fruits, cars, airplanes etc. Arts and Craft market, Osu, nicknamed Oxford Street because of the 24/7 numerous commercial activities. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 : Accra – Kumasi
After breakfast, check out of hotel. Depart Accra to Kumasi, Ashanti Region. City tour of Kumasi, capital of the former Ashanti Empire. Visit Manhyia Palace Museum, Prempeh 11 Museum. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 : Kumasi
After breakfast, proceed to Kumasi Central market, the largest open air market in West Africa. Kumasi Craft villages. Ahwiaa; where woodcarvers produce Ashanti stools, fertility dolls & walking sticks. Ntonso: Adinkra dyeing cloth dye is an extract from the bark of a tree called badie. Bonwire: Kente cloth weaving. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 : Kumasi – Elmina
After breakfast, check out of hotel. Depart Kumasi to Elmina, Central Region. Arrive in Elmina check in at your hotel and take the rest of the day at the beach front of your hotel at leisure.

Day 06 : Elmina – Kakum
After breakfast, proceed to visit Kakum National Park, a tropical rainforest in the heart of the Attandaso Reserve for an adventurous and breathtaking walk on the ‘Canopy Walkway’ 100ft off the ground Afternoon visit to Cape Coast & Elmina Castle, both UNESCO Monuments. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 : Elmina –Accra – Lome
After breakfast, check out of hotel. Depart Elmina via Accra to the Ghana/Togo border. After border crossing formalities, arrive in Lome and check into your hotel. In the evening, for those who are up to it, take a tour of Lome dubbed ‘Lome by night’ and see how the people spend their evenings. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08 : Lome – Cotonou
After breakfast, check out of hotel. International Museum of African Art, National Museum, Nana-Benz, the Independence Square and cathedral. The traditional fishing port and if by luck we meet the return of fishermen we will witness their unique form of pulling their catch to the shore. Visit the grand Marche noted for very colourful African fabrics local voodoo market noted for traditional charms and medicines. Lome craft center for high quality tribal masks and crafts. Afternoon drive to Cotonou, Benin. Overnight at hotel.

Day 09 : Cotonou – Ouidah – Ganvie – Cotonou
After breakfast, Drive to Ouidah, the voodoo capital of Benin. Visit the Kpasse Sacred Forest Royal Python Temple, Ouidah’s ancient snake cult. Visit the 17th century Portuguese Fort and the ‘Port of No Return. In the afternoon drive to Abomey Calavi and take a boat ride to Ganive village on stilts spread across Lake Nokoue inhabited by a population of about 15,000. Spend some time touring the lake town mainly the lover’s lane and the floating market. Later visit the Arts & Crafts village for souvenirs. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10 : Cotonou – Allada – Abomey –Cotonou
After breakfast, Travel north of Cotonou to Abomey, the former capital of the old Dahomey Empire. Stop over at Allada, home to the founding father of Haiti, Toussaint Louverture. Visit Abomey and visit one of the 12 magnificent palaces which is now a Museum, the war room, the common grave of the 42 wives of King Glele and the throne room. Overnight at hotel.

Day 11 : Depart Cotonou
Departure transfer to onward destination.

Day 02 : Lome – Kpalime
After breakfast, embark on a city tour of Lome visiting Independence Square, National museum, fetish market and central market, realm to the famous Nana Benz. Continue to Kpalime in the Plateau Region of Togo. En route, visit typical Ewe villages, rural schools and markets and stop at the foot of Mount Agou, the peak of Togo. Arrive in Kpalime; check-in at hotel.

Day 03 : Kpalime
After breakfast, drive through Missahoe forest to Kouma Konda on top of Mount Kloto, a real butterfly haven. On arrival, visit the “Campement”, a former German sanatorium before an instructive walking tour in the neighboring woods learning of the virtues of some plants. Road to Kpalime; stop at Yoh waterfalls. Explore Kpalime visiting the craft centre famous for macramé, batik and mostly woodcarving. Visit cathedral and former railway station dating from the German colonial era. Return to your hotel.

Day 04 : Kpalime –Atakpame – Sokode
After breakfast, drive to Atakpame, the city with seven hills. En route, visit vestiges of former German radio station at Kamina. In Atakpame, visit blacksmiths’ lane and the market. Proceed to Sokode, the second largest city in Togo, home to the Tem people. En route, stop at artisans’ working calabashes in Anie. Arrive in Sokode; check-in at hotel. In the evening, attend famous fire eaters’ dance in a village.

Day 05 : Sokode – Bassar – Bandjeli – Kara
After breakfast, drive through Malfakassa Mountains for Bassar. On arrival, visit the yam market and proceed to Bandjeli, a village at the head of iron mining and processing in northern Togo. Visit prototypes of blast furnace and witness the captivating T’bol fire dance. Proceed to Kara. Continue to Kabye Mountains to meet the famous blacksmiths molding iron with stones. Return to Kara; check-in at hotel.

Day 06 : Kara – Mango – Dapaong
After breakfast, drive to Mango, the land of the Tchokossi passing little Losso and Moba villages. From Mango, go 5 km offroad to Nagbati village. With a bit of luck, you will be amazed at hippopotamuses infesting the lake. Drive to Dapaong. Arrive in the late afternoon. Check-in at hotel.

Day 07 : Dapaong – Kara
After breakfast, visit the regional museum and depart to Nano village to visit famous antique granaries. Proceed to Koutammakou, the land of the Tamberma, a World Heritage Site. Lunch end route.  On arrival, interact with populations and with their permission, visit their habitat, the “takienta”, adobe castles spread in the fields. Continue to Kara. Check-in at hotel.

Day 08 : Kara – Atakpame
After breakfast, drive to Bafilo to visit a weavers’ cooperative. Continue to Aledjo fault and drive through the Aleheride mountains to Sokode for lunch. Proceed to Atakpame. Check-in at hotel.

Day 09 : Atakpame – Agbodrafo
Breakfast at hotel and drive to Bolou, a village famous for its potters. Visit village and drive through the valley of the Sio River for Lebe village. Stroll to the river and cross in a local pirogue for Devego. Continue to Agbodrafo on the banks of the Togo Lake. Arrive at Agbodrafo; check-in at hotel.

Day 10 : Agbodrafo
After breakfast, visit Wood Home, slave dungeons on the coast of Togo. Visit local fishing villages and continue to Aneho, former capital of Togo. Stop at the estuary of the Togo Lake in the Atlantic Sea. Proceed to a Glidji, center to the voodoo religion in the southern Togo. Meet priests of the sacred forest and learn about some of the voodoo deities and important ceremonies. Continue to historic village of Togoville. Visit of village including the tiny house of Chief Plakoo who signed the treaty of protectorate with the Germans in 1884, the German cathedral that Pope John Paul II visited in 1985.
Continue to Hotel Le Lac by pirogue. Check-in at hotel.

Day 11 : Agbodrafo – Lome
Breakfast at hotel. Rest of day at leisure. Check-out at 14.00 and drive to Lome.
Check-in at Hotel Novela Star or similar. Overnight.

Day 01 : Arrive Accra
Arrive in Accra, Ghana by international flight. Meet, assist and transfer to hotel.

Day 02 : Accra
After breakfast depart hotel for a sightseeing city tour of Accra. You will drive through the administrative and economic districts of Accra, the capital of Ghana. This 128-year-old city has a blend of colonial and modern architecture that summarizes her history. You will visit the W. E. B. Dubois Center for Pan African Culture, Independence / Black Star Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. End your tour at the Arts Center where you will have an opportunity to use your bargaining skills to shop in an open-air market for artifacts from Ghana and West Africa.

Day 03 : Accra – Cape Coast – Elmina
After breakfast depart for a drive to the Central Region and tour the infamous Forts, Castles and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. History will unfold as the story of the slave trade is witnessed, the impact still being felt beyond the shores of Africa today. Visit the Cape Coast Castle built by the Swedes in 1653 and was later taken over by the British. This castle also houses the West African Historical Museum established by the Smithsonian Institute in collaboration with the Ghanaian Government in 1994. Visit the Elmina Castle built by the Portuguese in 1482 and is also known as St. George’s Castle. This castle was the first European structure built in Sub–Saharan Africa. The view of the colorful harbor nestled below the Elmina Castle, full of pirogues preparing to go to sea, offers one of West Africa’s best picture-perfect opportunities.

Day 04 : Elmina
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for a drive through the historic Denkyira Kingdom to Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rain forests. Choose between a 2 km nature walk through this forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer or take a walk on the canopy walkway, which hangs suspended at 30 meters 100ft above the forest ground. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing at the beach soaking up the African sun.

Day 05 : Elmina – Kumasi
After breakfast at your hotel check out and depart for a drive through the forest zone to Kumasi, the seat of the Ashanti Empire and explore the legends of the famous Ashantis, whose legacies are still evident today. After lunch, visit Manhyia Palace Museum and obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom. A regal history that dates back to 1700AD is told with relics and artefacts. Enjoy a drive through the city with monuments dedicated to the memory of the great Ashanti people. End the day’s tour at the National Cultural Center, which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of the brass makers, potters and batik makers.

Day 06 : Kumasi – Damongo
After breakfast at your hotel, depart on the northern trails to Mole visiting typical villages and sceneries. Overnight at Motel.

Day 07 :Damongo – Wa
After breakfast at your hotel, visit the Larabanga mosque, it is a common belief that this mosque is the oldest in Ghana. Even the present generation thinks it was built my God and proceed to Wa. Wa has been occupied for several hundred years. The original inhabitants were Lobi, who now live mostly in Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast. They were displaced by the Dagaare, who were in turn displaced by the Wala. The Wala are an aggregation of different peoples- Moshi from Burkina Faso, Manding from Mali and Hausa from Nigeria – who settled in Wa attracted by the devotion to Islam and the commercial opportunities offered by the trade between the forest and the desert. Indeed the name of the town Wa means “come” in the Waali language. Arrive in Wa, visit the striking Wa Naa’s palace is a beautiful example of northern architecture and the hippo sanctuary at Wechiau.

Day 08 : Wa –Tamale
After breakfast, check out and depart Wa for a drive to Tamale the capital of the Dagomba State. Visit the Center for National Culture to see how the Northern Culture evolved. Here you will find the well known northern traditional attire known as the ‘smock’ or ‘fugu’ being designed, dyed and sewed by hand. Visit the main handicraft market where you can shop for straw products, leather goods, and carvings from the Mossi people. Visit Kukuo, a suburb of Tamale to experience the mastery and style used in the manufacture of pottery and other household items with clay and local dye or paint.

Day 09 : Tamale – Tatale – Kara
After breakfast, early departure to Tatale via Yendi and the witches’ village and proceed to Tatali, Togo/Ghana border. After border formalities drive to Bandjeli whose inhabitants, the Kokomba’s knowledge of secrets of the processing of the iron ore is multi-centenary. On arrival, you will be welcomed by the traditional ruler and retinue; visit a prototype of blast furnace used in the transformation of the iron ore and the typical house of the chief. Witness the captivating T’bol folkdance of fire and have a scenic drive to Kara.

Day 10 : Kara –Natitingou
After breakfast depart Kara drive to the land of the Kabye, highly perched in the mountains. Visit the amazing blacksmith workshops and proceed to the land of the Losso. Visit the typical houses, the “soukala” and continue driving through the Defale ridges to Koutammakou, the land of the Tamberma, a Unesco Heritage site. Visit the typical habitat of these folks spread in the fields, the “takienta” and proceed to Boukoume. After border formalities, have a country drive through the land of the Somba to Natitingou. Arrive in Natitingou; check-in at hotel.
In the afternoon, visit the museum.

Day 11 : Natitingou – Djougou – Sokode
After breakfast, depart Natitingou and head south. En route, visit the picturesque cliiside village of the Yom people, Taneka Koko and proceed to Sokode in the central region of Togo via Djougou and Tchamba. Arrive in Sokode; check-in at hotel.
In the evening, witness the dance of the Tem fire eaters at Kparatao.

Day 12 : Sokode – Atakpame – Notse – Kpalime
After breakfast, proceed to Atakpame in mid Togo. En route, visit the biggest open air market of Togo at Anie. Arrive in Atakpame; visit “akoto” indegenious soap making village nearby. Continue driving to Notse the historical capital city of the Ewe, today a very important pineapple producing center. Taste the pineapple and proceed to Kpalime in the Plateau Region of Togo. Arrive in Kpalime; check in at hotel.

Day 13 : Kpalime – Lome
After breakfast, drive through vestiges of the tropical forest for Kouma Konda, a famous butterfly sanctuary in the Kloto mountains. Hike in the surrounding woods and back to Kpalime. Visit the prolific Kloto craft center and road to Lome; stop at typical villages and markets and witness a voodoo ceremony. Arrive in Lome; check-in at hotel.

Day 14 : Lome – Accra

Day 01 : Arrive Cotonou
Arrive in Cotonou by international flight. Meet, assist and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 : Cotonou – Porto  Novo
Breakfast at hotel and proceed to Abomey-Calavi. Aboard a motorboat, ride on the Nokoue Lake for Ganvie, Africa’s biggest stilt village; home to 33,000 Tofinu people. In Ganvie, go the narrow alleyways among the stilt houses visiting the Lovers’ Lane, the “Maison de la Francophonie”, and the floating market stop at a local hotel for refreshment. Return to Abomey-Calavi and continue to Porto-novo; the city with three name, the administrative capital city of Benin. Get to know intricacies of the internal organization of Hogbonu kingdom visiting King Toffa’s former palace. Tour continues to the museum of ethnography arranged around the main themes of Birth, Life and Death without skipping an amazing collection of Gelede masks. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 : Porto Novo – Abomey – Dassa Zounme
Breakfast at hotel and drive through the meanders of the Oueme and Couffo rivers to Abomey, centre to the famous Dahomey Kingdom. On arrival, you will be treated to a private audience with the reigning king who will be glad to share the captivating history of his people with you. Bid farewell to his royalty and attendants and visit historic museum, a UNESCO Heritage site, palaces of the 9th and the 10th monarchs. Drive to Dassa Zoume. Attend Egungun ghost spirits’ dance in a village. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 : Dassa  Zoune – Natitingou
Breakfast and head north to Natitingou at the foot of Atakora mountains. En route, stop at famous Dankoli voodoo shrine at Doyissa where people from all over the region would come to make wishes and drive to the Yom “village under the rock” Taneka Koko for an insight into the animistic practices of this tribal group which has kept its traditions throughout ages. Drive from village to Natitingou. Visit regional museum for a bit of French colonial history in this part of Benin and local ethnic architecture. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 : Natitingou – Kara
Breakfast and head west to Togo driving through the land of the Somba with their adobe castles, the “tata”. Across the border live the Tamberma, a tribal group close to the Somba with similar architecture. This tribe has kept almost untouched its cultural heritage in a swiftly changing environment. This might even be the reason of its inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage. Visit their habitat, the “takienta” spread in fields. Drive through Defale mountains to the land of the Kabye in the mountains. The Kabye are famous for iron-smiths molding iron with heavy rocks. Drive to Kara. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06 : Kara – Bandjeli – Atakpame
Breakfast at hotel and drive west to Bandjeli village at the heart of traditional metallurgy in northern Togo. On arrival, visit remnants of blast furnaces and the chief’s compound with decorated round houses. Witness the captivating Tbol fire dance of Bassar initiates and continue driving to Atakpame via Sokode. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 : Atakpame – Notse – Lome
After breakfast, continue your journey south to Notse, the historical home for the Ewe people of Ghana, Benin and Togo. This important tribe in West Africa traces its origins to Mesopotamia through Egypt and Abyssinia. One of their most preserved traditions is chieftaincy with the chiefs playing a capital role in the day to day life of the community. Chiefs and elders rule over the people. Disputes are resolved by special traditional arbitration courts or intermediary spirits and powers administered by traditional religions. In Notse, visit relics of Agbogbo wall from where the great exodus of this tribe started to their present day settlements across the sub-region and continue to Bolou potters’ village. Embark on a city tour of Togo’s capital where modernism and tradition overlap. Visit intriguing fetish market; drugstore for the locals stuffed with animal skulls, dried snakes and toads and other virtuous herbs. Drive to the national museum; and Independence Square. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08 : Lome – Ouidah
Breakfast and drive to Agbodrafo, an ancient important slave trade post. Visit slave dungeons and continue to a local fishing community to get to know aspects of their daily chores. Continue to Glidji, an important voodoo stronghold in Togo. Meet priests of the sacred forest who will gladly share some of their belief aspects with you. Cross back into Benin and drive to Ouidah dubbed the “voodoo capital city of Benin”. Visit Kpasse sacred forest will be your first stop in Ouidah. This shaded wood is believed to be where is still standing the tree into which, King Kpasse got deified to deceive his foes and numerous voodoo shrines and statues. Visit the museum of History, a former Portuguese Slave fort. Visit the temple of pythons and go the Slave Route till the awesome Door of No Return on the beach.  Check-in at hotel.

Day 09 : Ouidah – Cotonou

After breakfast, proceed to visit Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and museum, dedicated to Ghana’s first post-independence President. A drive through the colonial section and view Ussher and James Forts built by the Dutch 1650 and British 1673 respectively. The Light House which used to guide ships to the Accra Harbour in colonial days. National Museum, Independence Square & Arch and the central business district Craftsmen at Teshie/Nungua who make fantasy coffins in the shape of vegetables, fruits, cars, airplanes etc. Arts and Craft market, Osu, nicknamed Oxford Street because of the 24/7 numerous commercial activities. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 : Accra – Kumasi
After breakfast, check out of hotel. Depart Accra to Kumasi, Ashanti Region. City tour of Kumasi, capital of the former Ashanti Empire. Visit Manhyia Palace Museum, Prempeh 11 Museum. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 : Kumasi
After breakfast, proceed to Kumasi Central market, the largest open air market in West Africa. Kumasi Craft villages. Ahwiaa; where woodcarvers produce Ashanti stools, fertility dolls & walking sticks. Ntonso: Adinkra dyeing cloth dye is an extract from the bark of a tree called badie. Bonwire: Kente cloth weaving. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 : Kumasi – Elmina
After breakfast, check out of hotel. Depart Kumasi to Elmina, Central Region. Arrive in Elmina check in at your hotel and take the rest of the day at the beach front of your hotel at leisure.
Overnight at hotel.

Day 06 : Elmina – Kakum
After breakfast, proceed to visit Kakum National Park, a tropical rainforest in the heart of the Attandaso Reserve for an adventurous and breathtaking walk on the ‘Canopy Walkway’ 100ft off the ground Afternoon visit to Cape Coast & Elmina Castle, both UNESCO Monuments. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 : Elmina –Accra – Lome
After breakfast, check out of hotel. Depart Elmina via Accra to the Ghana/Togo border. After border crossing formalities, arrive in Lome and check into your hotel. In the evening, for those who are up to it, take a tour of Lome dubbed ‘Lome by night’ and see how the people spend their evenings. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08 : Lome – Cotonou
After breakfast, check out of hotel. International Museum of African Art, National Museum, Nana-Benz, the Independence Square and cathedral. The traditional fishing port and if by luck we meet the return of fishermen we will witness their unique form of pulling their catch to the shore. Visit the grand Marche noted for very colourful African fabrics local voodoo market noted for traditional charms and medicines. Lome craft center for high quality tribal masks and crafts. Afternoon drive to Cotonou, Benin. Overnight at hotel.

Day 09 : Cotonou – Ouidah – Ganvie – Cotonou
After breakfast, Drive to Ouidah, the voodoo capital of Benin. Visit the Kpasse Sacred Forest Royal Python Temple, Ouidah’s ancient snake cult. Visit the 17th century Portuguese Fort and the ‘Port of No Return. In the afternoon drive to Abomey Calavi and take a boat ride to Ganive village on stilts spread across Lake Nokoue inhabited by a population of about 15,000. Spend some time touring the lake town mainly the lover’s lane and the floating market. Later visit the Arts & Crafts village for souvenirs. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10 : Cotonou – Allada – Abomey –Cotonou
After breakfast, Travel north of Cotonou to Abomey, the former capital of the old Dahomey Empire. Stop over at Allada, home to the founding father of Haiti, Toussaint Louverture. Visit Abomey and visit one of the 12 magnificent palaces which is now a Museum, the war room, the common grave of the 42 wives of King Glele and the throne room. Overnight at hotel.

Day 11 : Depart Cotonou
Departure transfer to onward destination.

Day 01 : Arrive Lome
Arrive in Lome by international flight. Meet, assist and transfer to hotel.

Day 02 : Lome – Kpalime
After breakfast, embark on a city tour of Lome visiting Independence Square, National museum, fetish market and central market, realm to the famous Nana Benz. Continue to Kpalime in the Plateau Region of Togo. En route, visit typical Ewe villages, rural schools and markets and stop at the foot of Mount Agou, the peak of Togo. Arrive in Kpalime; check-in at hotel.

Day 03 : Kpalime
After breakfast, drive through Missahoe forest to Kouma Konda on top of Mount Kloto, a real butterfly haven. On arrival, visit the “Campement”, a former German sanatorium before an instructive walking tour in the neighboring woods learning of the virtues of some plants. Road to Kpalime; stop at Yoh waterfalls. Explore Kpalime visiting the craft centre famous for macramé, batik and mostly woodcarving. Visit cathedral and former railway station dating from the German colonial era. Return to your hotel.

Day 04 : Kpalime –Atakpame – Sokode
After breakfast, drive to Atakpame, the city with seven hills. En route, visit vestiges of former German radio station at Kamina. In Atakpame, visit blacksmiths’ lane and the market. Proceed to Sokode, the second largest city in Togo, home to the Tem people. En route, stop at artisans’ working calabashes in Anie. Arrive in Sokode; check-in at hotel. In the evening, attend famous fire eaters’ dance in a village.

Day 05 : Sokode – Bassar – Bandjeli – Kara
After breakfast, drive through Malfakassa Mountains for Bassar. On arrival, visit the yam market and proceed to Bandjeli, a village at the head of iron mining and processing in northern Togo. Visit prototypes of blast furnace and witness the captivating T’bol fire dance. Proceed to Kara. Continue to Kabye Mountains to meet the famous blacksmiths molding iron with stones. Return to Kara; check-in at hotel.

Day 06 : Kara – Mango – Dapaong
After breakfast, drive to Mango, the land of the Tchokossi passing little Losso and Moba villages. From Mango, go 5 km offroad to Nagbati village. With a bit of luck, you will be amazed at hippopotamuses infesting the lake. Drive to Dapaong. Arrive in the late afternoon. Check-in at hotel.

Day 07 : Dapaong – Kara
After breakfast, visit the regional museum and depart to Nano village to visit famous antique granaries. Proceed to Koutammakou, the land of the Tamberma, a World Heritage Site. Lunch end route.  On arrival, interact with populations and with their permission, visit their habitat, the “takienta”, adobe castles spread in the fields. Continue to Kara. Check-in at hotel.

Day 08 : Kara – Atakpame
After breakfast, drive to Bafilo to visit a weavers’ cooperative. Continue to Aledjo fault and drive through the Aleheride mountains to Sokode for lunch. Proceed to Atakpame. Check-in at hotel.

Day 09 : Atakpame – Agbodrafo
Breakfast at hotel and drive to Bolou, a village famous for its potters. Visit village and drive through the valley of the Sio River for Lebe village. Stroll to the river and cross in a local pirogue for Devego. Continue to Agbodrafo on the banks of the Togo Lake. Arrive at Agbodrafo; check-in at hotel.

Day 10 : Agbodrafo
After breakfast, visit Wood Home, slave dungeons on the coast of Togo. Visit local fishing villages and continue to Aneho, former capital of Togo. Stop at the estuary of the Togo Lake in the Atlantic Sea. Proceed to a Glidji, center to the voodoo religion in the southern Togo. Meet priests of the sacred forest and learn about some of the voodoo deities and important ceremonies. Continue to historic village of Togoville. Visit of village including the tiny house of Chief Plakoo who signed the treaty of protectorate with the Germans in 1884, the German cathedral that Pope John Paul II visited in 1985.
Continue to Hotel Le Lac by pirogue. Check-in at hotel.

Day 11 : Agbodrafo – Lome
Breakfast at hotel. Rest of day at leisure. Check-out at 14.00 and drive to Lome.
Check-in at Hotel Novela Star or similar. Overnight.

Day 12 : Depart Lome
