TAJIKISTAN | 07 Nights / 08 Days
Tajikistan – Tu-kulob – Khujand – Penjikent Via Istaravshan – Drive to Seven Lakes – Iskandarkul -Lake – Hometown

DAY 01: Tajikistan
Botanical garden-very beautiful garden with many old trees is the favorite place of Tajiks. Bazaar- an oriental market is the most crowded place in the city Hissar fortress the remains of an 18th century fortress, occupied until 1924 is located in 30 km west of Dushanbe. Beside the fortress are two plain Madrassah, one dating from the 18th century and the other 19th, and beyond them is the mausoleum of 16thcentury.

DAY 02: Tu – kulob
Highlights of the route from Dushanbe include the tunnel and brief views down over Nurek Reservoir and the startling sight of the reconstructed 11th-century Hulbuk Fortress-Palace at the roadside in Karbon Shaid. We will visit this fortress and having visited we will continue the read to Kulob (which means swampy place or rushes and has also been called Kulab or Kulyab), is a city in eastern Kulob district, Khatlon Province, Tajikistan. Located 203 km southeast of the capital Dushanbe on the Yakhsu River (a tributary of the Panj) at 580 m above sea level; it is one of the largest cities in the country (population 82,000). In September 2006 Kulob celebrated its 2700th anniversary. Kulob is the birthplace of the current President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmonov. Part of the Khanate of Bukhara since the 16th century (the Emirate of Bukhara since the 18th century), the city changed its name from Khatlon to Kulob in 1750. In 1921, after the fall of the Bukhara Emirate. Lunch at the local restaurant.

DAY 03: Khujand
Situated in Ural-Tube is one of the ancient settlements in Tajikistan. It is said the city was found by Kiir in the north-east boundary of the empire.

DAY 04: Khujand
Sheikh Muslihiddin, mosque and mausoleum, Arbor palace, Monument to Lenin, Monument to Khujand poet, Kairakkum water reservoir.

DAY 05: Penjikent Via Istaravshan
Museum of Rudaki – As Penjikent is a birthplace of Abu Abdallah Rudaki, considered by many to be the father of Persian Poetry., Ancient Penjikent – ruins of old Sogdian town founded in 5th century and abandoned in the 8th century by Arabs. Foundations of houses, a citadel with a couple of Zoroastrian fire temples and city bazaar are visible in the excavated ruins.

DAY 06: Drive To Seven Lakes
Sarazm ruins. Sarazm one of the ancient settlement in Central Asia with 5500 years civilization. In 2010 the Sarazm was added to the list of the Human heritage by UNESCO. Haf Kul-seven lakes of different colors in mountains of Tajikistan. See 1. Mijgon, 2. Soya, 3. Hushyor, 4. Nophin lakes (2139m.a.l), Khurdak, 6.Marguzor, 7.Hazorchashma lakes (2400m a.s.l.)

DAY 07: Iskandarkul Lake
Drive to Sary Tag village via Iskandarkul Lake. Iskandarkul-known as a lake of Alexander the Great was established on 1969. The area of the lake is 30000 ha, which means Alexander. This place is connecting with him. He with his army had a rest on the lake shore after each campaign.
Drive to Dushanbe, accommodation to the Hotel.

DAY 08: Departure – Hometown
Today is the last day of the tour. We’ll have breakfast at the hotel and arrange transfer to the airport for your return flight.

DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 01: Arrive Dushanbe
Arrive in Dushanbe and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 02: Dushanbe National Museum
After Breakfast,
A whole day city tour in Dushanbe.
visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Tajikistan with the famous Buddha statue. Our next stop is the Navruz Palace. Initially this building was supposed to become the largest teahouse in the world. However, during construction, which involved hundreds of artisans from all over the country, the interior became so impressive that it was decided that it was going to become a palace instead of a teahouse. Most of its rooms are now used only for official government meetings with guests from abroad or for international conferences. Afternoon drive out of the city to visit to Hissar Fortress (25 km), the Madrassah Museum. Many centuries ago there were a noisy market and caravanserai.
Drive back to Dushanbe. Dinner at local city restaurant.

DAY 03: Dushanbe Yaghnobi Iskanderkul
After breaksfast, After breakfast, we drive to Yaghnobi. The valley is formed by the Yaghnobi River and belongs to the Zarafshan basin. It lies between 2,500 and 3,000 meters above sea level and is virtually inaccessible for six months of the year. The Yaghnobi Valley faced major challenges in the 1970s, when its entire population was forcibly removed and resettled in the Zafarabad region during the soviet time. However, the links to the valley were not entirely destroyed, as some Yaghnobi farmers continued to graze their herds in the valley and maintained the cemeteries and sacred places.

DAY 04: Khujand
Iskanderkul Lake,

known as a lake of Alexander the Great which was established in 1969. The area of the lake is 30000 ha. According to the legend, the Iskanderkul Lake was named after Alexander the Great, known as Iskander in the East. People say that Alexander the Great’s path to Central Asia from India laid through this lake.  Lunch at traditional homestay “Dilovar”. Exploration the surroundings of the lake: five springs, Zmeinoe Lake (Snake lake), walking to 38m high waterfall which is called “Fan Niagara“Return to Dushanbe in the afternoon.

DAY 05: Dushanbe kalaikhum (300KM & 3 Hours)
Departure to Pamirs on Highway M41. Via Tawildara (280km) and Khaburabad pass (3252m) (or via Kulyab region). We can see more conservative attitudes of this region in local dressing style and beards, but the hospitality is just as welcoming. We pass over Khaburabad Mountain Pass to Kalaikhum and the scenery and the people change again. The people here are Badakhshanis with their own languages. There are seven different languages used in Tajik Pamirs. Kalaikhum sits on the Panj River, a major tributary of the famous Amu Darya (Oxus) River.

DAY 06: kalaikhum Khorog (255 KM & 6 – 7 Hours)
The road will follow near Panj River, a tributary of the mighty Amu Darya (the famous River Oxus). During this entire trip, we will see Afghanistan from right side across the river, where the big difference of lifestyle of Afghan and Tajik Pamirs is visible. We will see the effort of the Afghanis to have their first highway that is built with no machinery. Khorog is the administrative centre of the Pamir region, dramatically set deep in the valley at the confluence of the Panj and Ghunt rivers and boxed in by the mountain peaks.

DAY 07: Khorog Ethnographical Museum (255 KM & 6 – 7 Hours)
Today we will explore Khorog which is the administrative center of the Pamir Region, dramatically set deep in the valley at the confluence of the Panj and Gunt Rivers and boxed in by the mountain peaks. There are a number of places which we will visit, from the Ethnographical Museum to the surprisingly well stocked Botanical Garden (one of the highest in the world). Also, we will visit the UCA old and new campuses and local Jamaat Hana.
Overnight in Khorog.

DAY 08: Khorog kalaikhum (255 KM & 6 – 7 Hours)
Visit to the botanical garden and further transfer to the town of Kalaihum.
Lunch on the way; dinner and overnight at guest house. You may notice more conservative attitudes of local dressing style and beards, but the hospitality is just as welcoming.

DAY 09: kalaikhum Dushanbe (280 KM & 7 – 8 Hours)
After breakfast we drive toward Dushanbe via Khobu-Robot pass (3252 m). You ‘ll take the route in middle of the high Badagshon Mountains range. It’s gonna be accessible to see the most beautiful views on the way.  Dinner at the oriental tearoom.

DAY 10: Departure Dushanbe
Transfer to the airport of Dushanbe for your international flight.
