In Nepal, the dog plays an important role as “the guardian of death”, said to carry the deceased across the river of death into the underworld. in Kukur Tihar , Nepalese policemen will present beautiful garlands to patrol dogs and paint their foreheads with cinnabar red to thank their contributions to social security.

After a cozy bath, those cows will wear red Tika and beautiful crowns, with sacred ropes from the priest tied to their tails.

As night falls, dazzling candles, oil lamps, and bright lights are lit on doorways, on steps, even on the ceiling. Every Nepali will make their home as bright as possible to attract Laximi ‘s attention . If the day is Saturday, the shops and stores will not follow traditional practices and will remain open to welcome the goddess of wealth. At this time, Nepali children will not be idle. They come to visit the neighbors in small groups and sing Tihar songs like Bhailo and Deusi to get blessings. In exchange, the owner of the house gives them money, fruit and sweets.

India Hemis Festival Ladakh | 10 Nights / 11 Days
Delhi – Leh – Alchi – Leh – Delhi
Hemis Festival Tour Ladakh

Hemis Monastery is one of the richest, best known and largest gompa in Ladakh . Its popularity stems from the huge annual festival held here in the summer. The Hemis festival is in honor of the birth anniversary of Guru Padma Sambhav . Hemis was built in 1630 during the reign of Sengge Namgyal , an illustrious ruler of Ladakh . It flourished under the Namgyal dynasty because the kingship favored the Drugpa sect , which administered the monastery. It is divided into two, the assembly hall on the right and the main temple on the left. The Dukhang hall is also used as a “green room” by the dancers during the festival. The temple is known as Tshogkhang . The varandas have an excess of frescoes, including the Buddhist “wheel of life” ( Kalachakra ) and the lords of the four quarters, in addition to the prayer wheel.

Hemis Festival in Ladakh is held annually on the 10th day of Tse -Chu, the lunar month of the Tibetan calendar. The 2-day party marks the anniversary of Guru ‘s birth Padmasambhava . On this day, the Hemis Monastery is beautifully decked out to host the ceremony. The colorful festival showcases the beautiful crafts of the area. The natives also dress up in beautiful traditional attire and gather in the courtyard of the Hemis Monastery , the largest Buddhist monastery in Ladakh . Lamas dance around the central flagpole to the beat of drums, cymbals and long horns. The otherwise cold and barren desert comes to life during the Hemis Festival .

Mask dances also known as ‘ Chham Dance’ depicting the triumph of good over evil are the highlights of the Ladakh Hemis Festival . These must-see dances are also accompanied by sacred plays that keep viewers entertained. The vibrant costumes worn by the lamas also attract attention. According to traditions, monks are supposed to wear long gowns, elaborate masks, and a hat. Each mask has a special meaning associated with it.

In the end, a sculpture made of dough and representing evil powers is destroyed by the head of the Black Hat dancers . This involves driving away evil spirits. The broken pieces are thrown in four different directions. The ritual indicates the purification of the soul after death.

The ‘Devil Dances’ are also vital aspects of the festival. ‘Chang’, a local liquor is served to people during the festival. The display of eye-catching handicrafts adds to the charm of the gala. The main Lama or ‘ Rinpoche ‘ is the person who presides over the event.

The Tibetan Year of the Monkey, also known as every 12th year, adds to the fun quotient. Ladakh plunges into a strong wave of faith and spiritualism when the largest thangka (as tall as two floors of a building) of Guru Padmasambhava is shown with great zeal. India Puri + Jagganath Rath Festival | 09 Nights / 10 Days
Kolkata – Bhubaneshwar – Puri – Bhubaneshwar – Kolkata
Puri + Jagganath Rath Festival

Puri Rath Yatra – the spectacular chariot festival celebrated for 8 days is held at the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri. Thousands of devotees flock to Puri during the occasion, as they believe that a glimpse of Lord Jagannath in his chariot gives salvation. Images of Lord Jagannath – the Lord of the Universe, his sister Subhadra and his brother Balbhadra are taken out in a procession in three huge chariots. The main carriage is 14 meters high and 10 square meters with 16 wheels.

Jagannath Rath Yatra is a festival that celebrates the annual visit of the God to his birthplace. The Jagannath Temple in Puri, Orissa is the place for all the celebrations. Several lakh people converge on Puri for this festival. An atmosphere of almost hysterical devotion prevails on this day and in years past; Devotees were known to have thrown themselves under the wheels of the Rath in the hope of instant salvation.

Why is Rath Yatra celebrated?

The wooden idols of the three deities, every year, are carried from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple . These idols are placed in decorative cars, and are accompanied by songs and shells, which can be heard everywhere. Before the Yatra starts, the idols are showered with 109 buckets of water, which is Snana pornima . These are put in isolation until the day of the procession, as they are believed to be ill. This event is called Ansara . On the day of the procession, the sacred ritual of Chhera Pahara is performed by the royal successor of Orissa. At this time, hordes of locals and devotees congregate around the temple area.

The main attractions of the Jagannath Rath Yatra are the elaborate chariots. The preparation of the chariots begins on the day of Akshay Tritiya . There are 3 main carts, pulled by hands with long ropes, which are 50 meters in length. It is believed that pulling this rope is like adding to your good Karma, and doing penance for your bad deeds.

PROGRAM – 10
India Pushkar Festival – Rajasthan | 14 Nights / 15 Days
Delhi – Mandawa – Bikaner – Jaisalmer – Jodhpur – Ranakpur – Udaipur – Pushkar – Jaipur – Fatehpur Secret – Agra – Delhi
Festival of the Feria of Pushkar – Rajasthan , India

Pushkar is a unique jewel among the grandeur of Rajasthan . A tourist delight and the Holy City, Pushkar is internationally known for its colorful cattle fair when thousands of devotees of all faiths gather to take a dip in the holy lake. ” Rajasthani ” dance , ” Rajasthani ” music , gaily dressed people and various cultural events make Pushkar so attractive to tourists.

Pushkar Cattle and Camel Fair is a huge event with around 200,000 people participating. The fair is held on the day of Kartik Purnima which falls in the month of October or November and continues for about five days. During the Pushkar fair , the villagers from different villages gather at Pushkar along with their camels and cattle. Livestock owners from all over the country come together in Pushkar to trade these important animal species. The fair in Pushkar involves not only cattle trading, but also pilgrimage and festivities.

Rajasthan is at its colorful best during fairs and festivals. There are numerous fairs throughout the year in the state, which brighten the hard and dreary lives of the villagers of the deserts. One of the most popular and colorful fairs in the Thar desert is the Pushkar fair , which starts at Kartik shukla Ekadashi and lasts for five days until Kartik purnima . The time of the fair coincides with the bright half of the moon during the months of October-November. Pushkar Lake is one of the holiest in India. Since time immemorial, people have been gathering here annually during the month of Kartik to pay obeisances to Lord Brahma.

The picturesque Pushkar Lake lies in a valley about 11 kilometers northwest of Ajmer , surrounded by hills on three sides and sand dunes on the fourth. Pushkar forms a fascinating location and a fitting backdrop for the annual religious and livestock fair. The turbaned heads of the men, and the colorful veils and skirts of the women, enliven the arid desert landscape. The women of the town dress in their best clothes and finery for the five-day mela .

At the roadside, stalls of all kinds are set up to sell a cornucopia of items. Almost every household is dedicated to setting them up as the locals try to capitalize on the massive influx of people. It is impossible to drive due to the large crowds. Either you hire a camel or you walk. In this aspect, it is truly a rural bazaar.

An interesting part of the Pushkar Fair is the massive camel trade. Of course, cattle and other animals are also traded, but it is the camels that take center stage in Pushkar . Camel traders and villagers from miles away converge on Pushkar with their humped beasts. Over 25,000 camels (and that’s on the conservative side) are traded; making this the largest camel fair in the world. Since Pushkar is a religious place, alcohol and non-vegetarian food are prohibited.

Holika ‘s Story

Integrally intertwined with Holi , is the tradition of ‘ Holika Dahan ‘, which is actually lighting bonfires. The ritual symbolizes the victory of good over evil and has its roots in the legend of the demon king Hiranyakashyap who wished to end the life of his blessed son, Prahlad with the help of his sister, Holika , who burned herself on the fir tree and did not no harm could occur to Prahlad . Since then the day is celebrated in the victory of good over evil.
